Indigenous Peoples Is The Key to Food Sovereignty
Indigenous Peoples play an important role in food sovereignty through sustainable agriculture, fisheries and forestry practices.
These practices have ensured food security and ecological balance in various regions, for example in Papua and West Java. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Indigenous Peoples, such as the Boti community in NTT, have shown resilience by relying on local wisdom and social solidarity.
Recognising and strengthening Indigenous Peoples’ food systems is essential for a just and sustainable national food system. Therefore, the ratification of the Indigenous Peoples Bill is relevant so that there is legal certainty for the recognition, protection and fulfilment of the rights of indigenous peoples and their knowledge and local wisdom.
