Foul Estate: Monitoring Report of Food Estate Program in West Kalimantan and North Sumatera

Synopsis
In 2020, FAO warned of the dangers of hunger due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Indonesian government answered the warning from the United Nations by launching the Food Estate project. The government claims the project is a solution to the national food security problem. The government prepared all regulatory instruments to streamline this project, including putting it into the National Strategic Project (PSN), Job Creation Law, and Ministerial Regulation.

The issuance of the Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation Number P.24/MENLHK/SETJEN/KUM.1/10/2020 becomes a problem. The policy allows the provision of forest areas for Food Estate. This regulation triggers deforestation legally in Indonesia.

Therefore, in 2022, Kaoem Telapak conducted research at several locations to monitor the implementation of the Food Estate national strategic project. Kaoem Telapak processed all the data into a report.

The report aims to inform the public about what happens in the Food Estate project field and its impact on the surrounding community.
