Assessing Opportunities for the I-EU CEPA Agreement as a Platform for Improving Environmental Governance

This paper analyzes the implications of the Indonesia – European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (I-EU CEPA) for environmental and community protection. The analysis focuses on the document’s Trade and Sustainable Development (TSD) chapter from the negotiation session. The TSD chapter regulates free trade, which places economic growth and the principles of sustainable development hand in hand.

I-EU CEPA is a free trade agreement targeted to be completed soon by the Indonesian government. This agreement brings hope for the progress of the Indonesian economy, mainly opening up access for Indonesian export products to the European Union (EU) market and increasing product competitiveness.
