Without Public Participation, Indonesia-EU CEPA Negotiations Have the Potential to Cause a Multidimensional Crisis in Indonesia
The Indonesian Civil Society Coalition for Economic Justice assesses that the Indonesia-EU CEPA Agreement will deepen the crisis of democracy, climate and social justice for all Indonesians. For this reason, the MKE Coalition urges the Indonesian Government not to continue negotiations on the agreement before there is a guarantee of legal certainty regarding the fulfilment of democratic rights, guarantees of protection of Human Rights, the Right to Social Justice, and the Right to a Sustainable Environment.
The Coalition conveyed this statement in response to negotiations on a comprehensive economic partnership agreement between Indonesia and the European Union (IEU CEPA), which will take place this week, February 6-10, 2023.
