We, Kaoem Telapak who are a members of Perkumpulan Telapak, aspire to realize justice between natural and inter-generational elements in the management of living natural resources in Indonesia. This unanimous determination is spelled out in the Telapak Movement to defend, fight and work with farmers, fishermen and indigenous peoples as the 3 main constituents, to free themselves from all forms of oppression and deprivation of human rights, and achieve political sovereignty, economic independence, and cultural dignity.
Kaoem Telapak realizes that there has been and is a growing conflict between the economic goals of the utilization of biological natural resources and their protection; strengthened domination and mastery of knowledge and information in the hands of international research and conservation institutions; increased rate of destruction of forest and marine ecosystems; there is a growing understanding that conservation is the preservation of nature that is “anti-people”, all of which results in the condition of people / communities in and around the area of living natural resources that are getting poorer and marginalized; and the increasingly intensive co-optation of the extractive industry private sector and corporations towards the civil society resistance movement.
Observing the latest developments in the Perkumpulan of Telapak, we are aware of internal organizational changes that lead to the tendency to distance the organization’s behavior from efforts to realize the ideals of the Movement of Palmers marked by a denial of the mission’s vision and values, the degradation of accountability, the emergence of authoritarian behavior in the organization and decision making, as well as neglect of members and key constituencies of the Telapak Association.
Therefore, in the Highest Consultation and Special Member Meeting of a members of Perkumpulan Telapak in 2016 at Sarongge, West Java, also known as the Sarongge Meeting, Kaoem Telapak reaffirmed the ideals of the Telapak Movement.
Furthermore, the Sarongge Meeting issued a notice to:
- Reput and strengthen the Telapak Movement by transforming the organization into the Perkumpulan Kaoem Telapak.
- Thus, for us, Perkumpulan Telapak has broken up and no longer exists.
- All matters relating to the transition of the organization will be followed up by the tools of Perkumpulan Kaoem Telapak in the best way possible and in the shortest possible time.
