Contents of the Draft Presidential Regulation Concerning the 2018 Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil Certification System (ISPO) can potentially weaken ISPO

The process of strengthening the ISPO, which has been running for the last year and a half, is heading towards an anti-climax. Initially, the strengthening process expects to encourage sustainable palm oil governance and increase the competitiveness of the palm oil sector. However, there needs to be more attention paid to multi-stakeholder interests, and the draft of the Presidential Regulation (Perpres) on the ISPO Certification System has the potential to become a backward step that further weakens ISPO.
