We, the undersigned organisations, wish to convey our hope that the EU Regulation on deforestation-free products (EUDR) contributes effectively to halting deforestation worldwide, while also strengthening smallholders’ rights and improving their livelihoods. .....
Solutions to tropical deforestation have to come from within tropical forest countries. That is why we welcome greater south-south cooperation. However, we are writing to express our concerns over the initiative’s direction of travel, specifically the lack of attention given to impacts of extractives and other harmful industries on rainforests and to the engagement of civil society and rights-holders in the process. .....

Kaoem Telapak condemns the violent action followed by allegedly live bullets shooting carried out by Seruyan District Police and Central Kalimantan Provincial Police against the people of Bangkal Village, Seruyan Regency, Central Kalimantan, Indonesia on October 7th 2023. This shooting incident resulted in one person being shot dead and two (2) people in critical condition, as well as the arrest of a number of Indigenous community members while protesting the palm oil company violations. .....
As many as 44 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Indonesia expressed dissatisfaction with the results of the European Union's trialogue regarding anti-deforestation regulations, commonly known as the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). According to the Indonesian CSOs, the EUDR is still far from expectations. As a civil society group in a producing country that will be indirectly affected, Indonesian CSOs assess that the EUDR needs to be sufficiently capable of reducing the rate of deforestation, and the greenhouse effect, preserving biodiversity and protecting the smallholders, local communities, also Indigenous Peoples. Unfortunately, it won't. Indonesian CSOs have identified various issues.....
In response to the EU’s proposed regulation on deforestation-free products, Solidaridad and 49 other civil society organizations call on the Commission to urgently assess smallholders’ needs. Without support, smallholders may struggle to comply and be excluded from the EU market while deforestation continues......
This statement summarises the views of civil society organisations from Asia and the Pacific, the Americas, Europe, and West and Central Africa, engaged in addressing key challenges threatening forests around the world, including the ongoing trade in illegal timber and commodity led deforestation.
