Kaoem Telapak condemns the violent action followed by allegedly live bullets shooting carried out by Seruyan District Police and Central Kalimantan Provincial Police against the people of Bangkal Village, Seruyan Regency, Central Kalimantan, Indonesia on October 7th 2023. This shooting incident resulted in one person being shot dead and two (2) people in critical condition, as well as the arrest of a number of Indigenous community members while protesting the palm oil company violations. .....
On November 6th 2022, European Union agreed on a proposed regulation to tackle deforestation. The law is called European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). The European Union was aware that as consumers, their make contributes at least 10% of global deforestation. Therefore, they need to pass the regulation to be responsible consumers. In 2022, Kaoem Telapak gave 22 journalists a fellowship to cover the current situation of the palm oil industry in Indonesia.

Through their writing, the journalists provide a clear picture of the current situation of the oil palm industry and plantations in Indonesia. The Journalist highlights the workers' and smallholders' issues and the impact of palm oil estates on local communities and the environment.

Moreover, the journalists also revealed various community initiatives to repair their ecosystem and environment damaged by irresponsible industry. The book also covers smallholders who are practising sustainability for their plantations.....
As many as 44 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Indonesia expressed dissatisfaction with the results of the European Union's trialogue regarding anti-deforestation regulations, commonly known as the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). According to the Indonesian CSOs, the EUDR is still far from expectations. As a civil society group in a producing country that will be indirectly affected, Indonesian CSOs assess that the EUDR needs to be sufficiently capable of reducing the rate of deforestation, and the greenhouse effect, preserving biodiversity and protecting the smallholders, local communities, also Indigenous Peoples. Unfortunately, it won't. Indonesian CSOs have identified various issues.....
After the public demanded the Government improve oil palm governance, in 2011, the Government issued a certification scheme. Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) is a certification scheme from the Government that palm oil business actors must follow. ISPO underwent significant revisions after the Government issued Presidential Regulation No.44/2020 and Minister of Agriculture Regulation No.38/2020. Even so, the New ISPO still leaves problems.
