Prabowo – Gibran’s 100 Days of Work: Kaoem Telapak’s Open Letter to the President of Indonesia to Immediately Improve Indonesia’s Forestry Governance
Today is the first 100 days of the leadership of Mr. Prabowo Subianto and Mr. Gibran Rakabuming Raka as President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia. This momentum is important to see the direction of the government’s strategic policies, especially related to the environment and natural resource governance.
The President’s speech at the Musrenbangnas RPJMN 2025-2029 emphasized that palm oil is a strategic commodity that is needed by the world. In addition, the President highlighted that the accusations of deforestation addressed to the palm oil industry were considered irrelevant because the palm trees themselves had ecological benefits.
Kaoem Telapak understands the importance of the strategic role of palm oil for the nation’s economic sovereignty. However, Kaoem Telapak feels the need to provide additional information based on data and studies, which hopefully can become strategic input to support the sustainability of this industry without harming the carrying capacity of the environment, community rights, and Indonesia’s international position.
